President Trump Visits Nuss Truck & Equipment in Minnesota

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – American Truck Dealers (ATD) member Bob Nuss, president of Nuss Truck & Equipment in Burnsville, Minn., hosted President Donald Trump and senior White House advisors for a roundtable discussion at his dealership on April 15. The meeting focused on tax reform, the economy and the positive effects of tax relief on small businesses.

Against the backdrop of a 2019 Mack Anthem truck, President Trump, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, U.S. Treasurer Jovita Carranza and a crowd of more than 300 attendees heard from business leaders about the benefits of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which was signed into law in 2017.

“It was an extremely high honor to have President Trump visit our Burnsville shop. Our employees were proud to show off the facility and I couldn’t be more grateful to the president for the chance to share with him our success story, the positive results of tax reform for our small business, and to discuss issues facing our industry,” said Nuss, who was named Truck Dealer of the Year in 2017.

Megan Brockway, the dealership’s HR manager, also participated in the roundtable and noted the president’s tax cuts allowed the company to provide bonuses to employees. “It's been great to see what people have been able to do with that extra money they’re getting,” she said.

One issue of importance to Nuss and ATD is the repeal of the 12-percent federal excise tax (FET) levied on the sale of most new heavy-duty trucks and trailers. ATD, along with the Modernize the Truck Fleet coalition, is calling on Congress to repeal the onerous tax, which discourages the deployment of the newest, safest and most environmentally-friendly trucks.

Nuss delivered a letter to President Trump asking for his support for FET repeal, and included an infographic showing the historical growth and expansion of the FET, and World War I-style posters promoting repeal of the 102-year-old tax.
